Renowned for its innovation, for its 30th anniversary this year, the Oldenburg Film Festival has partnered with the teams at the MILC Platform and The Film Verdict to take its first virtual steps into the Metaverse. Users can immerse themselves in virtual Oldenburg and its rich history, discover the films and talent participating in this year's in-person events in Germany, as well as hear from pioneering filmmakers who are shaping the future of the entertainment industry through exclusive virtual panel discussions.

The virtual Oldenburg film festival experience will be live from August 28. Step into the MILC Metaverse at metaverse.milc.global .

Hans Ohlms

Hans Ohlms (1908 – 1988) – ein Ausnahmekünstler mit vielen Gesichtern. Er war Karikaturist, Gebrauchsgrafiker, Porträtist, freier Künstler, Gestalter religiöser Räume und ein Suchender nach neuen Ausdrucksformen und Bildfindungen.

Sein Leben lang behielt er sich die Freiheit zu experimentieren und fertigte unzählige Werke – auch um manche später zu zerstören, wieder neu anzufangen und sich immer wieder neu zu erfinden. Der Drang, schöpferisch tätig zu sein, war zeitlebens groß und die Kunst sein Motor. Doch sein anerzogenes Pflichtgefühl stand dem Wunsch, sich völlig der Kunst hinzugeben, im Weg. Um so beachtlicher ist aber die hohe Qualität und der bemerkenswerte Umfang seines Œuvres.

Das Spannungsfeld zwischen Notwendigkeit und Freiheit, schien also viel weniger Hemmnis, als vielmehr existentielle Quelle seiner Kunst zu sein. Für Hans Ohlms war das künstlerische Schaffen ein permanentes Entdecken und Entwickeln.

Im Rahmen des diesjährigen Festivals verleiht die Hans Ohlms Stiftung den Hans Ohlms Preis für den besten Erstlingsfilm. Damit will sie neue und mutige Filmemacher unterstützen und den Geist und das Werk von Hans Ohlms ehren.
 Anlässlich der Kooperation zwischen dem Internationalen Filmfest Oldenburg und der Hans Ohlms Stiftung wurde eine Ausstellung kuratiert, die genrebrechende Werke aus der letzten großen Schaffensperiode von Hans Ohlms zeigt. Die Ausstellung "The future of my mind" ist exklusiv im Filmfest-Metaverse zu sehen.

Hans Ohlms (1908 - 1988) - an exceptional artist with many faces. He was a caricaturist, commercial artist, portraitist, freelance artist, designer of religious spaces and a seeker of new forms of expression and pictorial inventions.
 
Throughout his life he retained the freedom to experiment and produced countless works - even to destroy some later, to start again and to reinvent himself multiple times.
 
The urge to be creative was great throughout his life, and art was his driving force. Despite setbacks and obstacles he created an oeuvre of high quality and remarkable scope.
 
The tension between necessity and freedom thus seemed to be much less of an obstacle than an existential source of his art. For Hans Ohlms, artistic creation was a permanent process of discovery and development.

During this years festival the, the Hans Ohlms Foundation presents the Hans Ohlms Award for Best First Film. With this it wants to support new and daring filmmakers and honor the spirit and work of Hans Ohlms.

To celebrate the cooperation between the Oldenburg International Film Fesival and the Hans Ohlms Foundation an exhibition was curated to showcase genrebending works from the last great creative period of Hans Ohlms. The exhbition „The future of my mind“ can be seen exclusively in the Filmfest-Metaverse.
